The year 2007 marked the 400th anniversary of the establishment of the Commonwealth of Virginia and the 200th anniversary of the birth of Robert E. Lee.

To celebrate this momentous occasion, the Lee Chapel & Museum launched a campaign to raise funds to establish for the first time ever an endowment for the preservation of the Lee Chapel, the expansion of our collections, the development of lively and relevant interpretation, and the creation of stimulating new educational programs and exhibitions. and to support an exhibit revitalization that will emphasize the national significance of both of the Univerity's namesakes, George Washington and Robert E. Lee.
