2009 Spring Lecture Series
Each set of lectures will be held in the lee chapel auditorium beginning at 2:00pm on Sunday afternoons. the lectures are free and open to the public and a booksigning will be held for each presentation in the Lee chapel museum shop until 4:30pm.
this series is co-sponsored by the lee family digital archives, lee chapel & museum and the washington and Lee university department of history.

Beginning At 2:00 pm, Edward G. Lengel and James Holmes Armstead will present lectures on Washington and Lee on the topic
"Farewell to the Armies: Success and Defeat"
Lengel is an associate Editor at the papers of George Washington at the University of Virginina and is author of "General George Washington: A Military life" and "this glorious struggle: George Washington's revolutionary war letters".
Armstead is professor of strategy and international law emeritus at the united states naval college. Currently a visiting professor at the virginina military institute, he has published extensively on various aspects of international law and public policy.

"measures of the men: now they belong to the ages:
Warren is executive director of the society of the cincinnati in washington, D.c. and the author of "the presidenty of george washington.
Bryan is president emeritus of the virginina historical society and the co-author of "eye of the storm: a civil war odyssey" and a follow-up volume "Images from the storm: and "Facts and legends of the hills of richmond."
