Updated July 2009
The Lee Chapel & Museum, a National Historic Landmark built by Washington College President Robert E. Lee in 1868, is owned and operated by Washington and Lee University. Photography in such a space is disruptive to visitors and poses potential damage hazards, security risks and copyright issues regarding the museum’s collections. Therefore, the museum has established the following policy and guidelines.
No photography of any type will be allowed in the Lee Chapel & Museum, without express written permission from the museum manager. That permission, required at least two weeks in advance, will be granted only for University (news, publications, special events, weddings), tourism and scholarly purposes. No exceptions to policy will be granted for personal use. The University reserves the right to deny filming or photography in the Lee Chapel & Museum.
